Navigating the Big-Data Wave: Students Gain Insights from Expert

Robert Muster’s Guest Lecture Underlines Importance of Strategic Information Management
In today’s competitive landscape, in-depth data analysis and the development of effective strategies are crucial for businesses to attract and retain consumers, and ultimately thrive. To provide valuable insights on Strategic Information Management, Wittenborg recently offered the guest lecture "Data Strategy to Navigate the Big Data Wave” to a group of bachelor’s students. The session was delivered by data science researcher and lecturer Robert Muster, an expert in business analytics and decision-making support systems, digital transformation, digital marketing and consumer behaviour.
Among other topics, Muster’s lecture addressed the concept of Strategic Information Management (SIM), the role of IT in supporting it, how businesses can use technology to leverage big data and real-time analytics, and the interconnections between AI and Big Data.
The researcher highlighted that Strategic Information Management and Big Data strategy enable organisations to leverage large amounts and different types of data for obtaining and sustaining competitive advantage. “Effective management of data-driven insights supports better decision-making, enhances operational efficiency and fosters innovation. In today's accelerated digital transformation ecosystem, businesses that integrate big-data strategies can predict market trends, optimise resources and personalise customer experiences. These organisations will be the forward thinkers, the ones that will change the world,” he said.
According to Muster, the session was very productive, with students being interested, engaged and asking challenging questions. “I want to sincerely thank Wittenborg for the opportunity to teach these students. It was a fantastic experience, and I truly enjoyed working with them. They were highly engaged, insightful and proactive – exactly the kind of learners any educator would love to teach. I am sure that they also had a positive experience since I saw a lot of shining eyes around during and after the lecture. I loved the experience, and I am looking forward to meeting the Wittenborg students again.”
