Each year, Wittenborg recognises two exceptional graduates – one at bachelor’s level and one at master’s level – with the Best Thesis of the Year Award. The award is given in recognition of outstanding research, critical thinking, and academic writing, as demonstrated in the final thesis or graduation project submitted during the previous academic year.
Purpose of the Award
The Best Thesis Award aims to:
- To promote excellence in teaching, learning & scholarship
- To recognise students for their outstanding performance and achievements
- To provide incentive for enhancing the quality of (applied) research and societal impact

Eligibility for Nomination
Each year, a total of six students will be nominated for the Best Thesis Award:
• Three nominees from the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) programme
• Three nominees from the Master of Business Administration (MBA), or the Master of Business Management (MBM/MSc) programmes
Students who have graduated from a bachelor's or master's programme between 1 January and 31 December of the previous calendar year are eligible for nomination.
Nominees must also:
- have a good academic standing with an average grade of 7.5 or higher for the educational modules
- have achieved a grade of 8.0 or higher for the Final Project
- the maximum number of attempts for their GA/FP submission is limited to two
Evaluation Process
To ensure a fair and thorough assessment, an independent jury is appointed. The panel includes at least three (associate) professors and may consist of senior academic staff such as the Vice President of Applied Research, the Head of the School of Business, and Deputy Heads of the School of Business.
Supervisors and other qualified faculty members may be consulted to provide further academic insight during the review process.
Evaluation Criteria
The theses will be evaluated based on the criteria below:
- Originality, conceptual clarity and coherence of the research problem
- Scientific, technological and socio-economic relevance of the research problem
- Compilation, analysis and interpretation of existing literature
- Scientific soundness, validity and reliability and technological modernity of the experimental methods and data analysis
- Findings constitute a significant advancement in knowledge and understanding
- Organisation and structure of the whole report and use of language
Recognition Certificate and Prize
All awards and certificates will be formally presented during the Summer Graduation Ceremony of the following year.
The winners will receive:
- An award for both bachelor and master: a cash prize
- A Certificate of Recognition
The remaining nominees will also receive a certificate acknowledging their academic achievement.
