How Mehak Panwar Landed an Internship during Wittenborg's Job Fair

Mehak Details her Experience and Shares Tips for Job Seekers
Mehak Panwar, MCI (Marketing Communication & Information) student at Wittenborg, landed an internship on the spot during Wittenborg’s second Job Fair in 2024. With the 3rd edition of the Job Fair Central Netherlands coming up, Mehak shares her experience and tips for others looking to score an internship or job.
How it all started at Wittenborg's Job Fair:
For Mehak, it was her first time attending the job fair. Not knowing exactly which company she’d be assisting, she prepared by researching all the companies attending. “I made sure to know what each company did and thought about how their services aligned with my major. I also made sure to dress professionally,” she says.
One company, in particular, caught her eye: Corendon. As part of her research, she discovered an intriguing feature at the Corendon Village Hotel Amsterdam: the Boeing 747-400, the former KLM aircraft, 'City of Bangkok.' This iconic plane, which had made its first commercial flight in June 1989, had served KLM for 30 years before finding a unique final destination. After retiring from its flying days, the Boeing 747 was placed in the garden of the hotel, where it serves as a stunning and unusual landmark. “I’ve always been fascinated by planes,” Mehak shares. “When I came across this in my research, I was instantly captivated. I knew I had to learn more about the company behind this cool aviation feature.”
After speaking with Corendon’s representatives at the fair, Mehak became even more excited about the company and their work. “They were looking for passionate, creative people who were enthusiastic about making a change,” Mehak explains. “I showed my enthusiasm, creativity, and interest in marketing, and it paid off. I got the opportunity to be part of their marketing team as an intern.”

Key Advice on getting an Internship:
Don’t be afraid to volunteer: Mehak got involved with the fair as a volunteer and encourages others to do the same. “You never know where a simple conversation or a volunteer role might lead.”
Do your research: She made sure to learn about the companies before the event, allowing her to approach the right ones with confidence.
Be enthusiastic and confident: Mehak’s enthusiasm for Corendon’s work was evident, and it made her stand out. “Show the company how passionate you are and that you share their mindset,” she advises.
Network, network, network: “Job fairs are a great place to connect. Not only can you learn about companies, but you can also make valuable connections that might lead to your next opportunity,” says Mehak.
Mehak went on to complete her internship at Corendon, where she worked on the company’s social media, content creation and marketing projects. “The internship gave me exposure to the Dutch market and how marketing departments operate. I learned a lot and am confident that this experience will help me in my future career,” she says.
